Mercedes-Benz A-Class Hatchback vs A-Class Saloon

14.05.2020

The new Mercedes-Benz A-Class is one of the most popular models on sale at Bolands Mercedes-Benz in Wexford Town. Now buyers will have even more choice as Mercedes-Benz has introduced a new A-Class Saloon that goes on sale alongside the Hatchback. These new generation models feature the latest Mercedes' engines, safety technology and infotainment features, including the highly acclaimed MBUX infotainment system that responds to simple 'Hey Mercedes' commands!
Styling:Both models have the same design at the front of the car, but the difference is in their rear styling. The A-Class Hatchback is a compact, five door, while the new A-Class Saloon is slightly taller and longer with a seperate boot. The Saloon and the hatch are available in the same trim lines - Style, Progressive and AMG Line - with each grade giving the car a different 'look'. For example, for the hatch or saloon, choose Style for a cool, youthful look, Progressive for refined elegance or AMG Line for sporty features.
Interior Technology:Weather you go for the saloon or hatchback, you are not compromising anything when it comes to the latest connectivity and digital technology. The A-Class Saloon and hatchback both have the same stunning interior with two high resolution displays and the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) system. With simple 'Hey Mercedes' voice commands you can summon the system to read out text messages or dictate one and send it. It can check weather at the destination for you, change the radio station or take you home on the fastest route. Artifical intelligence means that the system is capable of learning. This means that over time, it gradually adapts itself better to the driver. It can remember your favourite songs and the way to work. It then automatically selects the right radio station or shows you a faster way if your usual route is congested. Clever!
Practicality:The A-Class saloon and hatchback will both seat five with more or less the same amount of passenger space inside. The boot of the A-Class saloon is a bit larger than the hatchback - 420 litres vs 370 litres. However, the hatchback has a larger boot opening that some customers find more practical.
Engines:Both models are available with the latest Mercedes-Benz petrol and disel engines. The line-up includes the brand's new 1.3-litre petrol engine (A180 and A200) with two different power outputs and 2.0 litre petrol (A250). There is also a new 1.5-litre diesel engine (A180d) and two 2.0-litre diesels (A200d and A220d) A160 and A160d entry level petrol and diesel engines are available exclusively in the hatchback range.
Pricing:Like for like, you will pay more for the A-Class saloon but you get a larger boot and the prestige of a Mercedes-Benz saloon. For example, the A180d saloon in the AMG Line trim has a list price of 39,069euro while the A180d AMG Line hatch has a list price of 38,523euro.
